Rakaya McMullen

Rakaya McMullen, 14, passed away April 19, 2024. She was born in Jamestown, PA and has been an Akron resident most of her life. Despite numerous health issues since birth, she was incredibly active in the community. She was part of Replay For Kids, the Dane Foundation and Miss Wheelchair USA, the Haven of Rest, and Calico.

Rakaya had an incredibly strong will and a big personality. Despite being non-verbal, she was always “in control” and could make an entire room laugh. In her short time here she touched so many, and she’ll be deeply missed.

Preceded in death by her sister, Paige Marie Smith, she is survived by her loving and devoted mother, Lorie Smith-McMullen; long-time caregivers, Heidi Jones and Angela Bauer; and her special friends at the Akron Children’s Hospital Palliative Care Unit.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 12 noon at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home and Chapel, 760 E. Market St., Akron, OH 44305.
